Sales Tax

DwarfMountain.com collects sales tax for all sales within the State of Colorado. While many online companies avoid the complex challenges of applying intricate sales tax rules, we are making a good faith effort to comply with the law. Currently (October, 2003) there are literally thousands of individual sales tax rates applicable across Colorado and full compliance for Internet based businesses is not possible for any company.

Please note that our chocolate confections are considered “food for home consumption” in most jurisdictions and not taxable. Other jurisdictions tax all food unless specifically purchased with food stamps. Shipping is taxable everywhere within the State of Colorado.

During the ordering process we ask you to choose where you will receive your shipment, which determines the tax rate applied. On the order form during checkout, the question “Where do you live to calculate sales tax on shipping? (Shipping Address)” uses a drop down box to choose a simplified list of taxing districts.

This list starts with our location in the City of Lakewood and builds outward in concentric rings covering additional areas. Please choose the appropriate area that most closely matching your shipping location. This becomes the basis of sales tax added on your order. We do check your address at shipping time and will provide the exact amount on the invoice included with your order. If you receive your shipment outside the State of Colorado, we are not required to collect sales tax from any other State.

Below are the ‘simplified’ tax rates we charge based on your shipping address:

1. City of Lakewood, 6.2%

2. Jefferson County, Colorado, 4.2%

3. State of Colorado, 3.7%

4. Outside the State of Colorado, 0%
